What A Week!!
Some of you may know, others may not... in 2004 I had a miscarriage. It was an unexpected pregnancy. I was on birth control at the time so it was sort of a surprise. It was my 2nd or 3rd semester of nursing school and Paul and I were still in our little one-bedroom closet that we just recently left (good riddens!!!).
Because of my past experience, this new and wonderful pregnancy has kept me on edge quite a bit. I apparently hadn't let go of my past trauma's from the first pregnancy - you will soon see why I came to this conclusion.
As you know Friday the 25th I went to my first doctor's appointment. It was exciting and fun and I was happy to get things going. They told me at the appointment that if any of my labs were abnormal they would call me and let me know on Tuesday.
Tuesday was a good day at work. I had really forgotten about their promise to call until after work when I got to my car to check my phone. There was a message - I knew it was them. I freaked. I called back while sitting in my car. I was on hold for quite a while - I swear they do that to you on purpose or something! Finally the nurse came on and she very nicely told me that my HCG was good but my progesterone levels were "slightly low" and they wanted me to come in for an ultra sound on Thursday and to see Dr. Pilgrim (my OB doc). They also wanted me to do these progesterone suppository inserts (joy to the world - ick) for a while.
I guess normally this wouldn't alarm someone. I let it get to me though and I cried all the way to the pharmacy. I got the inserts.
My mom, my little sister Amber, and my sister-in-law Kristine are three of the most gifted, wise, and loving people that I know. With their advice, reminders, prayers and words of support I think I am close, if not now completely able to let go of what happened in the past. I am working on forgiving my body for the past miscarriage.
Some things I think all women should realize is that there is still much about pregnancy that is unknown. Also, every one's body is different. It doesn't always take the same amount of hormone to carry a baby. Our thoughts are strong. What we think will become truths. Our attitudes also affect our health.
My families love and support along with Thursdays appointment has given me a new, positive, and happy outlook on this whole thing.
Introducing Baby Marie Mevec! She measures in at about 8 weeks 3 days. Her heartbeat is strong music to my ears! We love her. Paul loves HIM. He thinks it's a boy... I think it's a girl.

One of us is right... I know this.
